That depends on your case. Generally, a minimum period of six months since the last offense is required, with a mandatory period of abstinence of up to fifteen months. The decisive factor is the category into which you are classified. It’s best to submit your application for reinstatement shortly before the end of the abstinence period.

Always bring: your ID card or passport, Proof of abstinence (if applicable), medical certificates and reports related to your case, certificates of participation from counseling, preparation, or therapy, and—depending on the case—court rulings and proof of training. Your file will indicate what else is helpful.

Assessment: €750 to €1,400; application for reinstatement: €100 to €250; Proof of abstinence: €200 to €400 per program; preparation: €1,500 to €4,500. The range depends on the testing center and the number of issues to be addressed. The most expensive option is the second attempt, because all costs are incurred again.

You yourself. Health insurance companies do not cover the costs because the MPU is not considered medical treatment. Job centers and the Employment Agency do not typically cover the costs; you must apply in advance for financial assistance on a case-by-case basis. Legal protection insurance only covers attorney fees. With us, you can pay in installments at the same total price.

Not in every case. The decisive factor is the hypothesis—risk, abuse, or dependence—derived from your file and your statements regarding your substance use. Abstinence is usually required in cases of regular use or repeated incidents of problematic behavior. Omitting this requirement, even if your file suggests otherwise, will not work.

This is based on the following assumption: 6 to 12 months in cases of at-risk behavior, and typically 12 to 15 months in cases of abuse or addiction. It doesn’t matter when you stopped; what counts is when you can provide continuous, verifiable proof. Tests you’ve organized on your own don’t count, and six months won’t help if twelve are expected.

Start as early as possible, but set things up properly. The clock starts ticking from the first documented evidence, not from your last instance of use. Therefore, first determine which program fits your specific situation and hypothesis, and over what time frame. If you start first and ask questions later, you may have to repeat the documentation process in the worst-case scenario.

Only test results from a standardized program at a laboratory that operates according to chemical-toxicological criteria. Urine tests are scheduled on short notice—usually four over a six-month period and six over a twelve-month period. For Hair analysis, one centimeter corresponds to approximately one month. We’ll determine what’s appropriate before you register.

Alcohol (EtG) remains in urine for about 3 to 4 days and in hair for about 3 months. Cannabis remains in urine for a few days to several weeks; in hair, about 1 month per centimeter. Cocaine remains in urine for 2 to 4 days. These are all approximate values. Note: Mouthwash, disinfectants, or non-alcoholic beer can also cause a positive EtG result.

The interview follows a structured format rather than a set list of questions: the incident and your current assessment of it, your substance use patterns, the background circumstances, and the changes you’ve made—including relapse prevention strategies. Every answer is followed by a follow-up question. The most common reason for a negative assessment result is a story that falls apart by the third follow-up question.

Yes. Memorized stories and attempts to downplay issues stand out, and contradictions with your file usually lead directly to a negative assessment result. However, being honest doesn’t mean revealing your private life: Topics unrelated to the issue at hand have no place in the conversation. That’s why we go over your file with you beforehand.

On two levels. Internally: You can explain why it came to this, what has changed, and have concrete strategies for critical situations. Externally: Proof of abstinence, proof of participation, and proof of therapy. Evidence presented without internal reflection comes across as perfunctory; insight without evidence remains merely a claim.

Authentic, not perfect. The goal is to explain in your own words what happened, why it happened, and what has changed. You won’t be held against you for being nervous. Helpful tips: stay calm, answer directly, and openly address any contradictions. Only a mock exam will reveal whether your story holds up under pressure.

It documents all three parts of the assessment and concludes with an evaluation—a detailed discussion with questions and answers. A “positive” result means that no further violations are expected; a “negative” result means the opposite. A “conditionally positive” result usually requires a course under § 70 of the FeV. The report takes up to four weeks to prepare.

Don’t submit the negative assessment result to the driver’s license office—you’re not required to. There’s no disqualification period before reissue, but three months is a realistic minimum. The expert report states the reasons for the assessment; that’s your starting point. Simply changing testing centers won’t make a difference.

The proof shows that you haven’t used alcohol or drugs, not that you understand why. Typical issues include discrepancies with your case file, vague reasons, a lack of strategies for risky situations, or abstinence that appears to be merely a formality to fulfill a requirement. Continue your abstinence without interruption until your next appointment; any gap will only reinforce this impression.

An MPU is mandated at 1.6 per mille or higher, even without driving, because such levels indicate alcohol tolerance. At 1.1 per mille or higher, the authorities may order an MPU, especially if there are no typical signs of impairment. In the case of a repeat offense, the pattern matters more than the specific level, and this usually leads to a more severe assessment and a longer period of Abstinence.

A single reading of 3.5 ng/ml THC does not automatically result in an MPU, as clarified in Position Paper No. 12 by the DGVP and DGVM. Specifically, an MPU is required starting at 15 ng/ml without signs of impairment, starting at 8 ng/ml with THC-COOH levels above 150 ng/ml, or in cases of repeat offenses, poly-substance use, or prior convictions. In practice, many agencies order an MPU even at lower levels.

A prescription is neither a free pass nor an automatic reason for an MPU. The assessment examines whether taking the medication is therapeutically justified, whether you’re adhering to the dosage, whether the treatment is stable, and whether you keep taking the medication and driving separate. Documentation is crucial. A prescription obtained only after the incident has occurred will raise suspicions.

If you accumulate eight penalty points in Flensburg, your driving licence will be revoked; to have it reinstated, you’ll generally need to complete the MPU. This is the most difficult part because there are no lab results to prove that you’ve changed. You have to convince the examiners through conversation alone, and that’s all about emotions and self-control under pressure.

Yes, if the offense raises doubts about reliability or self-control. This applies to driving without a driving licence, hit-and-run, or coercion, as well as to criminal offenses unrelated to traffic. In cases of drug trafficking, it is advisable to voluntarily provide Proof of abstinence, because the authorities typically view trafficking and personal use as interconnected.

Assessment centers are officially recognized; lists are available from the Federal Highway Research Institute or your driver’s license office. They only conduct assessments; they are not permitted to provide counseling. The criteria are the same everywhere, but the centers apply different weightings. We’ll discuss which center is best suited for your case before you register.

Once you submit your application, there’s a deadline by which the expert report / assessment report must be submitted: too early means time pressure; too late costs you weeks. No. The Driving fitness assessment centre is solely responsible for determining the result; the driving licence authority then decides on fitness to drive based on that result. Both roles are governed by the Driver’s License Regulation. A preparation service can only promise you what it itself provides, not how a third party will decide.

No. Our commitment is not a refund, but rather continued service at no additional cost: analysis of the Expert report / assessment report and two additional preparation sessions, available as part of the complete package or as individual preparation sessions. If a provider promises you a refund, read carefully—before signing—the specific timeframe and procedure for filing a claim.

A promise of reimbursement or continued support relates to a provider’s own services and can be agreed upon in a contract. However, the provider cannot guarantee the outcome of the assessment. Whether a specific advertising claim is legally objectionable must be determined by an attorney.

A success guarantee would be a promise regarding the outcome, which is not within the provider’s control. A follow-up support guarantee is a commitment to cover the costs of the provider’s own services: following a negative assessment result, the work continues without an additional fee, subject to clearly defined conditions.

No. The Driving Licence Regulation strictly separates preparation from the assessment. The assessment criteria also stipulate that a reputable preparation service must not contact the assessor before or shortly after the appointment. We therefore do not contact your assessment center.

There are three things you can check without any specialized knowledge: Is someone promising a result that they don’t have the authority to decide on? Are they citing a success rate without specifying a benchmark or time frame? And is the condition under which a promise becomes void stated so clearly in the contract that you can verify for yourself whether you meet it?

Before the examination, you decide whether the expert report / assessment report will be sent only to you or also to the authorities, since the examination is conducted at your own request. We recommend having it delivered to your home. There is no legally mandated waiting period; the only time constraints are the disqualification period before reissue, the administrative deadline, and ongoing Proof of abstinence.

Ja. Sowohl die Grenze von 1,6 Promille im Blut als auch die Rechtsprechung zur fehlenden Ausfallerscheinung ab 1,1 Promille gelten unabhängig davon, ob es deine erste Auffälligkeit war. Nur der Wiederholungsfall ab 0,5 Promille setzt zwei Vorfälle voraus.

Ein Anwalt kann die Anordnung auf Formfehler prüfen und führt das Bußgeld- oder Strafverfahren. Die MPU selbst ist aber keine rechtliche Prüfung, sondern eine psychologische Prognose. Sie lässt sich nicht wegverhandeln. Wer dir etwas anderes verspricht, verkauft dir Zeit.

Möglich. Das Fahrverbot ist die Sanktion für die Ordnungswidrigkeit und endet nach ein bis drei Monaten. Die MPU-Anordnung ist davon unabhängig: Sie ist eine eigenständige Entscheidung der Fahrerlaubnisbehörde über deine Eignung und kann auch dann kommen, wenn strafrechtlich alles erledigt ist.

Eintragungen im Fahreignungsregister werden nach den Fristen des § 29 StVG getilgt. Solange sie eingetragen sind, darf die Behörde sie berücksichtigen, auch wenn zwischen zwei Vorfällen Jahre liegen. Eine Akteneinsicht schafft Klarheit darüber, was tatsächlich noch vermerkt ist.

Nein. Das Gericht setzt mit der Sperre nur fest, ab wann eine neue Fahrerlaubnis erteilt werden darf. Erteilen muss sie die Fahrerlaubnisbehörde, und die prüft deine Eignung nach § 20 Absatz 1 FeV eigenständig neu. Genau an dieser Stelle kommt die MPU-Anordnung.

Am Steuer eines Kraftfahrzeugs ab 1,1 Promille, das ist die absolute Fahruntüchtigkeit. Ab 0,3 Promille wird es zur Straftat, sobald Ausfallerscheinungen, Fahrfehler oder ein Unfall dokumentiert sind. Rechtsgrundlage ist § 316 StGB. Beide Werte stammen aus der Rechtsprechung, die Vorschrift selbst nennt keine Zahl.

Eine Ordnungswidrigkeit, solange du unauffällig gefahren bist. Du bist nicht vorbestraft und bekommst keinen Eintrag ins Führungszeugnis. Bußgeld und zwei Punkte fallen trotzdem an, dazu in der Regel ein Fahrverbot von einem bis drei Monaten.

Beim Fahrverbot bleibt die Fahrerlaubnis bestehen, der Führerschein kommt nach ein bis drei Monaten von selbst zurück. Bei der strafgerichtlichen Entziehung erlischt sie mit der Rechtskraft des Urteils, § 69 Absatz 3 Satz 1 StGB. Danach hilft nur die Neuerteilung durch die Behörde.

Einmalig in der Regel nicht. Zweimal ab 0,5 Promille schon, denn § 13 Satz 1 Nummer 2 Buchstabe b FeV verlangt nur wiederholte Zuwiderhandlungen unter Alkoholeinfluss, keinen bestimmten Promillewert und kein Strafverfahren.

Regelmäßig nicht. Die Rechtsprechung verlangt zwei vom Geschehensablauf her eigenständige Lebenssachverhalte. Ein kurzer Einkauf zwischendurch macht daraus keine zwei Vorfälle. Zwischen zwei getrennten Fahrten dürfen dagegen Jahre liegen, solange beide im Register stehen.

Mit dem Vorfall, nicht mit dem Brief. Das behördliche Verfahren startet erst mit der Anordnung. Abstinenznachweise und eine belegbare Verhaltensänderung brauchen aber Monate, und diese Monate laufen ab dem Tag der Tat. Wer erst mit dem Anordnungsschreiben anfängt, hat die Zeit dazwischen bereits verbraucht.

Die MPU ist keine Prüfung, sondern eine Begutachtung. Eine Höchstzahl von Versuchen kennt die Fahrerlaubnis-Verordnung nicht. Zwischen zwei Anläufen liegen erfahrungsgemäß im Regelfall zwei bis drei Monate, sofern kein neuer oder verlängerter Abstinenznachweis gefordert wird.

Nein. Die Teilnahme eines Vorbereiters, eines Familienmitglieds oder eines Rechtsvertreters am Gespräch führen die Beurteilungskriterien ausdrücklich als Kontraindikator (Kriterium 3, Kontraindikator 1). Das Gespräch findet in der Regel unter vier Augen statt. Abweichen lässt sich davon mit deinem Einverständnis, etwa wenn die Stelle einen Dolmetscher bestellt.

Das schriftliche Gutachten liegt in der Regel nach zwei bis sechs Wochen vor, im Schnitt nach drei bis vier. Eine Einschätzung am Ende des psychologischen Gesprächs ist vorläufig und nicht verbindlich. Verbindlich ist allein das schriftliche Gutachten, das von beiden Gutachtern unterschrieben wird.
