Galileo: How to Recognize Reputable MPU Preparation Services

On May 13, 2026, Galileo aired a segment addressing a question many people ask themselves before choosing a provider: How can I tell if an MPU preparation service is reputable? The segment was filmed at our office in Bochum, featuring me, psychologists from our team, and a client who’d previously had a bad experience with another provider. Unfortunately, the segment is no longer available anywhere. That’s why I’m writing here about what we covered and what you should look out for, no matter which provider you choose to prepare with.

How the shoot came about

In March 2026, a writer from Galileo reached out to us. She was planning a feature story on the MPU and the market for preparation courses in Germany and wanted to understand what effective preparation looks like today, what mistakes people make when they go in unprepared, and how to recognize quality and professionalism. She became aware of us because we present our services and prices in an open and transparent manner.

We discussed the concept together in several meetings. One thing was particularly important to me: our clients’ data remains protected, and nothing is recorded secretly. Anyone who speaks about their MPU on camera has made a conscious decision to do so. Filming finally took place at the end of April, at an assessment center and at our office in Bochum.

What Galileo has shown us

The Galileo team filmed at our offices. The focus was on the difference between reputable and untrustworthy preparation services and how those affected can tell the difference. The video featured me and several psychologists from our team.

For the other side of the process, an expert showed the Galileo team the TÜV—that is, the assessment center where the MPU itself takes place. Important to note: The assessment center is independent. It prepares the expert report / assessment report; neither we nor any other preparation service does.

Massimo’s Journey Back to Getting His Driver’s License

Massimo came to us after having a bad experience with another preparation service. He had a serious drug offense on his record. In his case, he didn’t have to provide additional Proof of abstinence, so it was all the more important to address the issue: why it happened, what has changed since then, and how he’s ensuring it won’t happen again.

We walked this path with him step by step, and he passed his MPU. His case shows that what matters less is how difficult a case looks on paper, and more whether the preparation truly suits him.

Five Characteristics of a Reputable MPU Preparation Service

First the file, then the plan. Serious preparation starts with your driving licence file, not with a standard course. The evaluator is familiar with your file before you even meet. Your preparation should be familiar with it, too.

Psychologists instead of coaches. Ask who you’ll be working with and what their qualifications are. With us, you’ll be working with psychologists.

A price you know in advance. Reputable providers clearly state their prices before you sign up. Our fixed-price packages are listed on the website.

No guarantee of the outcome. The assessment center decides on the outcome of your expert report / assessment report. Anyone who guarantees you’ll pass is making a promise they can’t keep. A preparation service can only guarantee its own performance—in our case, the follow-up support guarantee included in the “Complete” and “Individual Preparation” packages.

An honest assessment, even if it’s uncomfortable. If you don’t pass with us, it’s usually because you took the test too soon. That’s why we’ll tell you straight up if you’re not ready yet—even if you’d rather hear something else.

Three Warning Signs of an Unreliable Preparation Service

A promise of results. Pass guarantees sound reassuring, but they cannot be honored because the provider does not decide on your expert report / assessment report.

A schedule that sounds too good to be true. “Done in two weeks” does not apply to cases where Proof of abstinence for six to fifteen months is required.

Answers to memorize. Experts will keep asking questions until they get to your personal experience. Memorized phrases won’t hold up—the only thing that’s credible is what you can explain using your own example.
